Squeezing every bit of that performance out of a later model Corvette requires fine tuning and updated computer accessories like a performance chips and a computer tuning system programmer for lap top or stand alone.Some of those names are:

One of those is the Predator which recognizes the vehicles PCM and selects proper tuning files for it allowing you to reset to the best specifications. The Predator also has a computer memory so it can fully optimize spark timing and air/fuel ratio curves which ultimately lead to a very noticeable increased horsepower. It like some of its other competitors also remaps your transmission parameters to synchronize and improve shift characteristics like quicker shift points and firmness.

Not all tuners work the same but, DiabloSport's programming is performed in very small increments throughout the entire RPM range as it is being monitored, providing a smoother, wider and more predictable power delivery. The Predator's and some of its equals provide easy additional power which makes itself noticeable immediately. With an increase in power that starts in the low RPMs and builds into a frenzy at the high RPMs increasing power, torque and performance. A Predator equipped Corvette will experience significant improvements in drive ability due to the additional power and improved shift patterns that have been fine tuned and updated. The power increase in low RPMs will provide a better throttle response when punching the accelerator. The increase in MPG is a byproduct of maximized engine efficiency to the drivers advantage. An important factor is that with more efficient combustion you will save more on gasoline (depending on your foot) because the engine will burn more gas in the cylinder and not expel it through the exhaust.

Tune is important after several miles like 10,000 to 20,000 to compensate for any wear. The performance chips are another important factor in gas saving a performance. Air/fuel ratios in modern automobiles are regulated by a computer Electronic Control Unit (ECU). Most straight from the factory ECUs are set to maintain a 14.7:1 air/fuel ratio. This is known as a stoichiometric fuel mix and is usually as vehicle standards set by law. This first mix is a balance between power performance and fuel economy, which is what most automobile buyers are happy with achieving. In layman s terms when you lean out the air/fuel ratio will cause a power loss and fuel economy gain and moving the spectrum the other direction like richening the air/fuel ratio will cause a slight (usually less than 1/2 mpg) reduction in your Corvette fuel economy but provide you with an increase in raw power. In most settings the air/fuel ratio must remain between 13:1 and 17:1 to remain quality efficient. Any leaner than that and the engine will be starved for fuel. On the other hand any richer mixture with out added devices and the engine will not be able to ignite and com bust all of the injected fuel causing inefficiency and poor performance.

Quality modules increase performance by adjusting these ratios between 13 and 14.7 automatically as it senses the changes in the fuel curves. Spark timing is also adjusted accordingly to keep in step. A combination of both after market Performance chip and a quality tuner and as an optional small blower can dramatically increase horse power creating a more high performance screaming Corvette whole conserving and burning each gallon of gas.
